VGCC students celebrate Phi Beta Lambda Week

Vance-Granville Community College’s “Chi Beta Chi” chapter of the Phi Beta Lambda business student organization celebrated National Future Business Leaders of America/Phi Beta Lambda Week, February 7-11.

PBL students recruited new members during the week and raised awareness of their organization, the mission of which is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.

On Feb. 8, the chapter served lunch to all students, faculty and staff at the college’s main campus. Meanwhile, they sold teddy bears as a fundraiser benefiting the March of Dimes “Bean Bags for Babies” program.

Another event during the week was Adviser Appreciation Day. The chapter adviser is VGCC Business Administration instructor LaTonya Steele and the co-advisers are Business Administration/Accounting program head Carl Hann and Director of Logistics Technologies Walter Martin.

Finally, on Feb. 10, VGCC Director of Career Services Linda Fletcher presented a workshop for students on overcoming obstacles to searching for jobs and making career moves.

Phi Beta Lambda, led at VGCC by chapter president Shelonda White of Oxford, is the national organization for college students who are preparing for a variety of careers in business. The Greek letters stand for the English words “Future Business Leaders,” and PBL is affiliated with the Future Business Leaders of America, an organization for high school students. With a quarter-million members, FBLA/PBL is the largest business career student organization in the world. For more information, call LaTonya Steele at (252) 738-3447.
