VGCC Earns High Marks in Annual State Report

Vance-Granville Community College continues to excel by a variety of measures, according to the 2008 Critical Success Factors report from the N.C. Community College System office. The CSF report is a compilation of assessments of all 58 community colleges on service provided during the 2006-07 academic year. This annual reporting is part of the strict accountability requirements of the North Carolina General Assembly.

VGCC President Randy Parker informed the college’s Board of Trustees of the report’s findings on July 21. The college scored above the system-wide average on five measures: student satisfaction, business/industry satisfaction with training provided by the college, Developmental course passing rates, passing rates on licensure and certification exams, and performance of College Transfer students.

Students transferring to a four-year state university from Vance-Granville continue to out-perform students who started at public universities as freshmen. The VGCC College Transfer program , recently ranked first in the state for transfer student success, provides students with the first two years of a B.A. or B.S. degree program, including over 80 transferable freshmen and sophomore level courses.

In addition, VGCC exceeded the minimum standards on performance measures reflecting the progress of Basic Skills students and the success rate of Developmental students in subsequent college-level courses.

“This report reflects the excellent work of our faculty, staff and students,” President Randy Parker said. “As we enter our fourth decade, Vance-Granville continues to be recognized as one of the leading community colleges in the state.”
