VGCC Computer classes start in June at Main Campus

Vance-Granville Community College will offer several of its popular computer-related classes for area residents starting in June on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

In a night course, participants can learn how to set up and run their own small home-based businesses. They will learn the basics of how to buy and sell on the Internet in a course entitled “Buy & Sell: Internet Auctions,” which will be offered on Thursday nights, June 11 through July 23. Students should have good computer skills to take this course and are encouraged to bring items to list and sell.

Those who are new to the workforce or trying to become more proficient in an existing job will find that basic keyboarding knowledge is a must in today’s workplace. To help them gain such skills, VGCC will hold a “Beginner’s Typing” class on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon, June 15 through July 22. This course will help students develop essential keyboarding skills and improve their speed and accuracy.

While on summer break, area teachers can take advantage of an upcoming VGCC course specifically designed to help professional educators better utilize their classroom computers. “Using Microsoft Office in the Classroom” will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., June 23 through July 17. VGCC Office Systems Technology instructor Amy O’Geary will teach the course, which will focus on the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.

The cost for each class is $55, plus $4 for campus security/access and technology fees.
