VGCC Plans CNA Course for Future Nurses and Others

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a special Nurse Aide I course on the college’s main campus in Vance County, starting June 19 and continuing through July 31. Classes will be held Monday through Friday. When students are in class, their hours will be 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., while their clinical training will be conducted from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“This particular course is tailored particularly for students working toward a degree in Nursing or some other medical field,” said Julie Cooke, VGCC instructor and coordinator of the Nursing Assistant program. “It fits into the schedules of most college students’ summer breaks, and it will be slightly more in-depth, including anatomy and physiology, and other nursing skills.”

The Nurse Aide I program prepares students to become Certified Nursing Assistants. VGCC’s certification programs offer classroom education, laboratory training, and clinical experiences in local nursing homes and hospitals. Jobs for CNAs are available at nursing homes, physicians’ offices and other healthcare facilities.

Registration will be held on June 9 at 3 p.m. in room 7106 on the college’s Main Campus. To register for the course, a student should bring a Social Security card, a picture ID and the results of a negative TB skin test.

The cost to register for the course is $95
