Vance County Sheriff’s Department Opens Satellite Office on VGCC Campus’

Vance-Granville Community College celebrated the establishment of a satellite office for the Vance County Sheriff’s Department in the northern corner of the college’s main campus on Dec. 13.

“Thank you for this opportunity,” Vance County Sheriff Peter White, a VGCC graduate, said to college president Randy Parker. Parker said that the hand-over of the office was an exciting event long in the works, and he thanked the sheriff for the ways in which his personnel continue to partner with VGCC.

Danny Wright, chairman of the Vance County Board of Commissioners, who was also on hand, added, “We appreciate how VGCC partners with the community in so many ways. This office will be put to good use, and it is good for this area of the county to have the presence of the sheriff’s department.”

The new office was most recently used by VGCC’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program, and Vance County sheriff’s deputies have taken classes there in the past. Now, it can be used for meetings and other purposes. “The primary purpose of the satellite office is to reduce response time for residents in this area of the county,” White said. “We will also conserve fuel and cut down on wear and tear for our vehicles” by sending them from the satellite into the community, the sheriff added.

Parker said that VGCC has a safe campus, but that the presence of the sheriff’s personnel should be a deterrent for crime. VGCC Chief Security Officer Charles Hedgepeth called the establishment of the Sheriff’s satellite office “a win-win situation.”
