Businesses hope to meet Future Employees at VGCC Career Day

Jo Ellen Nowell, Vice President of Human Resources and Marketing for Triangle Home Health Care, Inc. is one of many area businesspeople who will talk to Vance-Granville Community College students at the college’s 30th annual Career Day. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 2 from 9 a.m. until noon in the Civic Center on the college’s main campus in Vance County. At last year’s event, 384 students and 84 businesses attended, and 20 job offers were made on the spot.

Founded in 1987, family-owned Triangle Home Health Care works to help people stay in their own homes as long as possible. Nowell represented her company at Career Day in 2006 and plans to come back this year.

The college and Nowell’s company have a strong relationship. Most of Triangle’s Henderson-based employees were trained by VGCC, and the company has also established an endowed VGCC scholarship. Nowell also knows the college well, since she worked there for many years. Nowell presented a seminar for VGCC students on effective communication skills and work habits in February. She will follow that up with a March 26 seminar on interview skills, which offers students preparation for Career Day.

Triangle will join representatives of approximately 85 businesses and agencies at Career Day. This event is held each spring to give potential employers an opportunity to tell Vance-Granville graduates and potential graduates about what the companies and agencies do and about the type of workers they hire. Most companies will also accept resumes from students to keep on file. Several companies will also hold interview sessions for students who recently graduated or who are set to graduate in May.
