VGCC Cosmetology Students Meet Employers

Vance-Granville Community College students circulated through the college’s Civic Center on March 16 for an informative expo/career fair focused on Cosmetology careers. They talked with representatives of area salons and other businesses about job opportunities.

Among the businesses represented at the event were E-Clips Barber & Beauty Center of Henderson, Hair in Motion of Henderson, the Trade Secret chain, Snipits of Raleigh, the Cost Cutters chain, Smart Styles, Zerek’s Credit Repair, Farm Bureau Insurance, AboutFace Skin Care Spa, Bronner Brothers New Expression, Design Essentials, Splash Hair Studio and Eastside Barber Shop.

VGCC Cosmetology program head Tomeka Moss said that the event, the second of its kind she has organized at the college, was a success, and that she hopes to hold similar events in the future with even more business participation. “The expo is an excellent way to bring together prospective employers and students,” added VGCC Director of Applied Technologies & Public Service Angela Gardner-Ragland. “The main goal of the fair is to let our students know the array of opportunities which are available in the cosmetology field. It is our hope that most of our graduates will secure employment immediately upon graduation.”

The Vance-Granville Cosmetology department offers diploma and certificate programs in Cosmetology , Cosmetology Instructor and Manicuring/Nail Technology . VGCC students learn in a simulated salon environment which enables them to develop manipulative skills. Cosmetology courses are available at each of the four VGCC campuses, and the college also operates programs at local high schools.
