World-renowned Community College Expert Speaks at VGCC

Dr. George B. Vaughan (pictured above, with VGCC President Randy Parker on left), one of the world’s leading scholars on community college education, visited the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center on Feb. 27 for a lunchtime presentation to VGCC faculty and staff. His presentation, entitled “The Community College Mission Today,” was also streamed live via the Internet for personnel at the college’s other three campuses. Vaughan is a Professor Emeritus in the Adult and Higher Education Department at North Carolina State University and former editor of the Community College Review. Prior to becoming a professor, Vaughan served as president of two community colleges — Piedmont Virginia Community College and Mountain Empire Community College — for a total of 17 years. A national study named him one of the 50 most effective community college presidents in the nation.
