VGCC Offers Formal Wear Design course

A new course at Vance-Granville Community College will help area residents fashion their own bridal gowns or evening wear. “Designing Formal/Wedding Attire,” a 16-week course, will be held on Wednesdays, March 5 through May 14, from 6 until 9 p.m. in room 5201 on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

The instructor, Lucille Bullock-Alston of Henderson, has been creating garments for herself and friends for many years and now wants to teach some of her skills to others. Students will learn how to select an appropriate pattern and type of fabric. Finally, an in-class fashion show will be held in which students can show off their creations, which could be used for weddings, proms or other formal evening occasions.

The cost of the course is $69. Students should supply their own shears, pins and tape measure.
