VGCC offers art course at Warren Campus

A class for people who want to learn art from the beginning and others who wish to expand their knowledge in new areas will be taught at Vance-Granville Community College’s Warren County Campus, beginning Feb. 26. Classes will be held at the campus on Ridgeway Street in Warrenton on Tuesdays, through May 1. Students can choose either a day class (1 until 4 p.m.) or an evening class (6 until 9 p.m.).

Dorothy “Dot” Overby, who lives on Lake Gaston and who has studied with many of the nation’s top painters, will teach the class. She is qualified to teach in all media, including pastels, oils, acrylics, color pencil and the “wet-on-wet” technique. She teaches landscape and seascape painting, portraits, pet portraits and other forms of expression. “Everyone can paint, and each person has his or her own style,” Overby said. “I try to help them bring out that style.”

The cost of either class will be $45.
