VGCC South Campus offers basic Sign Language training

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled a Sign Language course at the college’s South Campus, located on N.C. 56 between Creedmoor and Butner. Classes will be held on Monday and Thursday nights from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Feb. 11 through April 21.

Donna Snipes will serve as the instructor. “This course will lay a basic foundation of knowledge in American Sign Language on which the student can expand his or her learning,” said Snipes. Students who complete the course will have a basic understanding of American Sign Language and should be able to communicate effectively with a deaf person. This basic course will not qualify the student to work as an interpreter.

The cost of the course is $60.
