VGCC Deans Complete Leadership Program

Three Vance-Granville Community College officials recently celebrated the completion of a professional development program for community college leaders. VGCC Franklin County Campus Dean Bobbie Jo May, Warren County Campus Dean George A. Henderson and South Campus Dean Cecilia Wheeler completed the Executive Leadership Program sponsored by North Carolina State University.

All three praised the program as being beneficial. “We learned very practical approaches that we can use in our day-to-day work,” Wheeler said.

After kicking off the program with a one-day seminar at Durham Technical Community College in March, participants completed the rest of the course online.

The Executive Leadership Program is designed to meet the needs of executive-level administrators in North Carolina community colleges who seek a professional development experience that broadens and deepens their leadership skills for their current position. Since the program is conducted primarily online, time away from campus and program costs are kept at a minimum. The content of the course included strategic thinking, emotional intelligence as a leadership tool, coaching for success, and ethics in the workplace.
