VGCC Board of Trustees Hold Meeting

The Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees held their bimonthly meeting on September 17 at the Henderson campus of VGCC. During the meeting, Judge Daniel F. Finch swore in two Board members; plans were announced to re-roof the Civic Center and to add a new motorcycle safety program; and the Board learned that enrollment at the college is up for the fall semester. In other business, the Board approved both the 2007-2008 Operating Budget and the Strategic Plan.

Board Members Sworn In:

Ninth District Court Judge Daniel F. Finch swore in Stan H. Fox, a former state legislator from Granville County, and Abdul Sm Rasheed of Vance County, President/ CEO of N.C. Community Development Initiative Inc. Both men will serve a four-year term on the VGCC Board of Trustees. Rasheed was reappointed, while Fox is joining the Board after Dr. G. Thomas Houlihan, a retired educational administrator, announced that he would be leaving the Board at the end of his term to serve on the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges. Dr. Houlihan’s term ended on June 30, 2007. The terms for Fox and Rasheed will end in 2011.

The Board also welcomed Ed Lyons, an Information Systems Security student from Louisburg, as the new Student Government Association President/ Student Trustee. Lyons replaces Joan Ayscue, who graduated from the college on May 17. Lyons will be a non-voting member of the Board, representing student interests on campus.
