She holds an MBA from the Meredith College School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before coming to the college, she worked in marketing for the News and Observer in Raleigh for 10 years. Stem then worked for five years in marketing for McClatchy Interactive, the Internet division of the Sacramento-based McClatchy Company, the nation’s second largest newspaper chain. The North Carolina Community College Leadership Program (NCCCLP) was created in 1989 to provide an interdisciplinary approach to leadership training through professional development. In today’s climate of change, issues such as re-engineering, budget control, and collaborative approaches to problem solving offer new challenges. North Carolina Community College System officials believe that the ability to meet these challenges is dependent upon the quality and diversity of its leaders.
