VGCC Students Provide Art for Senior Center

Above: Members of instructor Lelia Brigham’s art class at Vance-Granville Community College’s main campus review their artwork shortly before it was to be donated to the Vance Senior Center. “The Vance Senior Center and the Vance County Department of Social Services feel very fortunate to have been the recipient of paintings completed by the Vance-Granville art class,” said Senior Center manager Kelly Foti. “Ms. Brigham came to our rescue to solve our worries of dreary and drab lobbies. We are changing the image of our agency to an inspiring and enriching agency. These paintings will help us to reach this goal as we showcase the beauty of art. It is through the kind acts of those in the community that Vance Department of Social Services and the Senior Center are flourishing. Individuals and agencies such as Vance-Granville Community College are the reason the Senior Center is able to provide services such as Meals on Wheels, art classes, quilting classes and many others.”Foti said that she hoped the community would come see the new paintings at the Senior Center, located on Garnett Street in Henderson, and find out about the center’s wide variety of activities and travel opportunities for residents age 50 and over. The Senior Center also offers services at the Vance County Department of Social Services, located on Ruin Creek Road in Henderson.
