VGCC Schedules Dining course

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a course entitled “Dining for Business or Pleasure” at the college’s main campus in Vance County. The first class will be held on October 17.

Constance Lue, the course’s instructor, noted that “to be well-rounded, a successful person needs to know the basics of etiquette and dining manners.” Lue said that students would take away practical information that could be useful in various business or social settings, such as setting a table, proper napkin etiquette, and appropriate tipping. She also suggested that table manners can give a candidate an edge in a lunchtime job interview.

“This course will be a lot of fun, and we allow for mistakes,” Lue said. “The point is to make you more comfortable, so you can put on your best ‘you’ while dining.”

The class will meet three times (Oct. 17, 19 and 24) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County. The course’s equivalent of a final exam will be an actual business lunch in downtown Henderson on Oct. 26.

The cost of the course is $35, plus the cost of the business lunch ($11) and a book fee. Transportation to the lunch will be provided.
