Register for Spring Semester Jan. 3-4

The Spring 2008 semester at Vance-Granville Community College begins Tuesday, Jan. 8, and college officials advise you to apply and register for classes as early as possible.

The spring course schedule is now available on VGCC’s website (vgcc.springerstudios.net) by clicking on “Schedules.”

New students in curriculum programs must attend an orientation session on Thursday, Dec. 13 in the Civic Center on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County. Orientation sessions are also scheduled on the college’s other campuses (located in Warren, Granville and Franklin counties).

After the Christmas break, students may register from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008.

Registration for dual-enrolled high school students will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 4, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students may pay, verify payment or charge tuition and fees at the VGCC Business Office on Main Campus (or at the campus where they are enrolled) on the same days as registration, or wait for an invoice and schedule to be mailed. The Main Campus Business Office hours of operation are 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Fridays. The payment deadline for early registration is Thursday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m., and the payment deadline for late registration is Friday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m.

Anyone with questions about registration at Vance-Granville should contact the college’s main campus at (252) 492-2061 or visit any of the other campuses for more information.

FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE

Frank A. Clark, VGCC Director of Financial Aid, encourages students who need financial assistance to visit his office immediately and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For faster results, Clark advises students to apply online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Eligible students may receive Pell Grants ranging from $400 to $4,310. Students may also qualify for other college or state funds, including the NC Education Lottery Scholarships. The Lottery Scholarship is a need-based state grant that will help many students who previously were not eligible for Pell grants. Completing the FAFSA is all that is required to be considered for these and most other state-sponsored grants. In order for a student to charge tuition, fees, and books to financial aid awards, the application must be processed entirely prior to the registration period.

Students should remember to bring a signed copy of their 2006 federal tax return, and/or their parents’ return, when they apply for funding assistance at any of the four campuses.

Students with preschool-age children may receive financial assistance to help pay for child care, and applications for this help are also available at the Financial Aid Office.

For more details regarding financial assistance, visit the Financial Aid Office in Room 8215 on Main Campus or call (252) 738-3280.

HELP FOR VETERANS

Military veterans who wish to use their Veterans Administration Education benefits may contact the Financial Aid Office at (252) 738-3421. College costs cannot be charged to the VA, but veterans will receive monthly VA checks if they are approved for study. Veterans should check with Financial Aid to see if the programs in which they are interested are covered.
