VGCC South Campus offers courses for every interest

Three Vance-Granville Community College night classes scheduled to begin in September at the college’s South Campus, located on N.C. 56 between Creedmoor and Butner, offer area residents the chance to learn new skills to enhance their personal lives and leisure activities.

The first course, “Floral Design,” will be offered on Tuesday evenings from 6 until 9 p.m., Sept. 9 through Oct. 28. Instructor Larry Jackson will teach students how to create beautiful flower arrangements. Students will explore the world of floral designs for a variety of occasions or just for fun. The cost of the course is $49.

In “Basic Soldering for Jewelry Charms,” students will use basic soldering to create pieces of art — charms which they can wear individually or attach to a bracelet. Under the direction of instructor Ophelia Steten, students will find inspiration through collage making, and then enclose their newly created artwork behind glass using a soldering iron. Students of all skill levels are welcome on Wednesday evenings from 6 until 8 p.m., Sept. 10 through Nov. 5. The cost of the course is $49 plus supplies.

Finally, “Developing Skills in Resolving Family Issues” will be offered on Wednesday evenings from 6 until 8 p.m., Sept. 17 through Nov. 12. Instructor Yvonne Faison will help students learn how to help resolve common family problems by way of intervention and by using community resources. The cost of the course is $55.
