VGCC hosts Financial Aid event

Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus served as a local host site for the 2013 FAFSA Day on Saturday, Feb. 23. On FAFSA Day, college financial aid officers and other volunteers help North Carolina high school seniors and current or prospective college students to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms at various locations across the state. The FAFSA Form is the standard form required for federal and state need-based aid and for consideration for many other scholarships and grant opportunities. FAFSA Day is a program co-sponsored by the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC), North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NCASFAA) and the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU), and has been offered each February since 2001. At VGCC’s event, other representatives were also on hand to provide information on the college’s academic programs .

VGCC Director of Financial Aid Kali Brown said that the college provides assistance in a variety of forms to help students who meet eligibility requirements, including federal and state grants, work-study and scholarships. She encouraged all new and returning students to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov  as soon as possible for the 2013-2014 academic year. Students who have filed FAFSAs for previous years must file renewal forms each year.
