VGCC goes red for Heart Month

In recognition of February as American Heart Month, the Vance-Granville Community College Nursing department and the college’s chapter of the National Student Nurses Association encouraged all students, faculty and staff members at the college to wear red on Feb. 7. Faculty, staff and students at Granville Early College High School , a partnership between VGCC and Granville County Schools, showed their support by participating as well. Pictured above wearing red are, from left, Renee Gooch, NC Wise Data Manager for the high school, Olivia Banks, the school’s guidance counselor, principal Chris Ham, and three students, Danielle Dauray, Tim Wilbourne and Terri Wagstaff.

Members of the National Student Nurses Association also created a bulletin board on the college’s main campus to showcase information about heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. National Wear Red Day is meant to particularly highlight women’s heart disease awareness.

VGCC offers several health sciences programs, including the Practical Nursing diploma program, the Associate Degree Nursing program and a three-semester LPN-to-ADN transition program.
