VGCC Celebrates Black History On Thursday

A Black History Month program featuring entertainment, African-American products and remarks by a popular Raleigh columnist will be held at Vance-Granville Community College on Thursday, Feb. 27.

From 4 to 6 p.m., vendors will display their wares in the lobby of the Civic Center on the main campus in Vance County. Soaps, oils, personalized photo albums, fire bowls, fragrances, ceramics, art, soaps, oils, books and scarves are scheduled to be shown and sold by area artists, crafts people and businesses.

Entertainment will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Civic Center. Gospel artist Mary Williams, a steel drum band and an African style dance group will offer musical entertainment. Delamar Rackard will read excerpts from speeches by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the featured speaker for the observance will be Barry Saunders, a columnist for The News & Observer of Raleigh.

Admission to the Black History Month program is free, and the public is invited to attend.
