Learn to Plan Your Own Wedding In Class Sponsored by Vance-Granville

The “Wedding Doctor” will make a house call to Vance-Granville Community College to teach a class on wedding planning and decoration.

Shandelan T. Hightower, owner and operator of Henderson Florist and Gift Shoppe, will teach the eight-session class that will meet on Monday evenings from 6 to 9, beginning April 3 and ending June 5. The class will meet in Room 5227 of Building 5 on VGCC’s main campus in Vance County.

A Henderson native and graduate of the Lake Worth, Fla., School of Floral Design, Hightower has been setting up weddings for 14 years and has earned the nickname, “Wedding Doctor.” She said students in her class will learn how to arrange beautiful weddings and save money for themselves and their families.

Students will learn how to work with fresh-cut and silk flowers, and they will learn how to design basic floral arrangements and wedding bouquets, both for holders and free-hand. They will also learn about a variety of decorative items used to make weddings beautiful and decorative, including floral and balloon arches.

Cost of the class is $30. For more information and to pre-register, call the VGCC Continuing Education Office at (252) 492-2061.
